Tony Says "Stop the Canada-Columbia Free Trade Agreement"
Tue 17 Nov 2009
We are using every procedure available to us to keep this from passing at 2nd reading. Peter Julian our critic has been spectacular in his efforts. We have all spoken at least once against this agreement, in the House. We are now on a second round. I have participated actively in the debate on a number of occasions asking the government not to sign this agreement for all the reasons articulated in both letters to me and the Liberal caucus from my constituents..
I shared my experience of meeting with the daughter of a slain union activist in my office and her plea and that of the USWA (including the voice of our own local 2251) to stop this agreement with such a brutal regime.
This morning as I write this note I stand with my caucus colleagues to stop the government from bringing an end to the debate. Be assured of our every effort to expose how wrong this is and the inherent injustice happening in Colombia that screams out to be addressed in a different way.
