Apply for Funding to Celebrate Canada
Mon 22 Feb 2010
SAULT STE. MARIE – SAULT MP Tony Martin is encouraging municipalities and groups to apply to Canadian Heritage for funding to support community-based activities organized for Celebrate Canada. The application deadline is February 28th.
Celebrate Canada takes place every year from June 21st to July 1st and includes National Aboriginal Day on June 21st, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24th, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27th and Canada Day on July 1st.
“Participation in Celebrate Canada activities is important because it helps brings us together as Canadians, it strengthens our communities, and helps us understand the significance of our citizenship” said Martin. “There have actually been recent administrative changes to the program, which means that there should be more money available for Ontario ridings such as Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma”
Canadian not-for-profit organizations, businesses, educational institutions and municipalities may be eligible to receive funding as long as their projects are non-commercial. Some ideas for activities include: parades, concerts, award ceremonies, fireworks and seniors’ gatherings. For more ideas visit the Canada Heritage website: http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/special/canada/invittn/101-eng.cfm
But don’t delay; the deadline to be considered for funding is February 28, 2010. Applications postmarked or delivered to your Canadian Heritage regional office after February 28, 2010 will not be considered.
