Tony's Record

Stories about Tony's work in our community . . .

Tony Says
People in our community write Tony email letters on issues which concern them.

Economic Development
Tony Martin has been a champion for Sault-Algoma. This past year there have been issues with Essar Steel, St. Mary's paper, rail transport, to name a few. He has been involved in many activities and projects encouraging our local economy. The Summer Jobs program, gas tax transfer to municipalities, tax relief to tradesmen.

Health Care
Tony and the NDP continue to fight for shorter wait times, more doctors and nurses to serve patients, improved long-term care and a national pharmacare (drug coverage) program.

Confronting Poverty
Tony's special area of interest is the NDP End Poverty Campaign.

Protecting Our Environment
Tony has successfully pressured Essar Steel Algoma and the provincial government to initiate long-term solutions to reduce air pollution. He also has pressed for the clean-up of the St. Mary’s River and for hearings into causes of low Great Lakes water levels by the International Joint Commission.

Farming
Tony is helping to develop options for improving farm incomes by supporting income stabilization programs and encouraging solutions like the Penokean Hill Farms local marketing initiative.

Supporting Families And Seniors
Tony has fought for an effective national child care program for Canadians. And he has helped seniors with problems like the rip off in government pension indexing.

International Affairs
Tony and the NDP are pressing for diplomatic efforts to bring about international peace and security. Tony is working to ensure that the jobs or student loans of Canadian Armed Forces Reservists, like Saultites in the 49th Field Regiment, who serve our country overseas in theatres like Afghanistan, are there for them when they return home. He also has worked to resolve cross-border issues and improve relations with our neighbours in the U.S.
